Review: CRKT/Ruger LCK Knife

Guess who’s back in the land of beer and cheese? That’s right – After two years on the New Mexico/Colorado border, I’ve returned to a paradise of bratwurst and blizzards. But did you know Wisconsin boasts more than just artisanal sausage and microbreweries out the wazoo? Turns out we have some pretty talented knife designers, as well.

Quick Hits: Outside Review Compilation

Hey, everyone! Between working on new reviews for Journeywind Junk, I’ve also been testing gear for two larger website: GearJunkie and BladeReviews. Rather than just linking them on my Instagram, I’ve decided to gather all the articles into one blog post. Check out the list below to read my writeups on several watches, knives, and miscellaneous tools.

Review: Victorinox Maverick Watch

Greetings, all! I’m back at it with a review of the Victorinox Maverick, a watch marketed as “The perfect blend of elegance and function.” This timepiece has both thrilled and frustrated me, often to a comic degree. So much so, in fact, that I was forced to invent a new word to capture the experience. Read on to see how my awkward style holds up to a watch claiming to be “effortlessly elegant in every situation. Just like those who wear it.”

Quick Hits: Highlights & Hiatus

It’s getting to be that time again, folks. After several months of frenetic reviews, I’ll be stepping away from the site. Not forever, mind you, but between my day job, life changes, and plain old gear burnout, I think a hiatus is in order.

Before I take a breather, I wanted to post quick reviews on several pieces of gear. Among these are the Tangram Orion and Spyderco Chaparral FRN knives (on loan from Nick Shabazz), the Karas Kustoms Retrakt, and the Rickshaw Bags Waldo Pen Case, along with a few thoughts on Pilot’s Varsity line of disposable fountain pens. Let’s dive in.

Review: Faber-Castell Loom Fountain Pen

I ask, for the second review in a row, “What the heck is this?” I work on a construction site, probably one of the least fountain pen-friendly environments out there. And yet, here I am with the Faber-Castell Loom, one of the most well-regarded fountain pens in the sub-$50 range. This, along with the TWSBI Eco, is considered to be among the best writers for bottled-ink beginners. Let’s see if this steel-tipped Bavarian can stand in the world of steel-toed boots.

Review: Longines Conquest V.H.P. Watch

What the heck is this? A near-$800 watch on a backwater, budget-focused review site? That’s right – In a first for Journeywind Junk, I’ll be tiptoeing into the world of high-end timepieces. Here to tempt me with its fit and finish is the Longines Conquest V.H.P., a high-accuracy quartz watch from the fabled horologists of Switzerland. Let’s see if the quality of this rarified Alpine air is all it’s cracked up to be.
